AN ADRENALINE-FUELED WEEKEND IN GROBNIK!
There are so many moments that tell the story of a race, especially when its stars are the riders and teams of the Bagger Racing League Europe.
A loud and colorful caravan, coming from all over Europe, capable of gathering to celebrate in front of a buffet, toasting with the many bikers who flocked to the paddock, and just as capable of focusing all efforts on the bikes of those who might be experiencing technical difficulties.
It was a weekend that also saw the championship debut of new riders who helped liven up the show. They are Markus Barth, Alessandro Mattu, and André Pires — each making their mark in different ways in both races.
Two very different races: Saturday saw the riders quickly spread out into the positions they would hold under the checkered flag, while Sunday delivered a battle among the top four right up to the last corner, with constant changes at the front, thrilling the spectators who cheered the riders all the way to the podium.
On the podium in both races: Manuel Grandi in first place, followed by Andrea Tomio and Kevin Manfredi.
Special mention goes to Portuguese rider André Pires, a former MotoE world championship contender, who on his debut with the Attanasio Team’s Ducati V2 challenged the Italian trio for victory right up to the final lap, after having led for more than half the race. Pires is now a rider to watch for the next round, which will be held on home turf at the Portuguese track of Estoril.
It was also a good debut for the other two rookies: Markus Barth finished Race 1 in fifth place, while Alessandro Mattu, after a crash in Race 1, achieved the same result as the German in Race 2.
Important championship points went to Marco Attanasio, while mechanical issues sidelined both Andres Schäfer and Ruben Xaus. Schäfer was forced to retire from Race 1 and couldn’t take the start for Race 2, while the former Superbike star had to withdraw even before the official practice sessions.
